The clutch in your car should last between 65,000 km and 70,000km. However due to different style and type of driving they can fail at an earlier stage. Replacing a clutch takes some time because the car wheels, drive shaft and gearbox need to be removed before you can access the clutch to replace it. Our Team AutoCentre members are experienced and have the necessary equipment to carry out this heavy duty work.
How your clutch works
The clutch consists of a large disc attached to the engine and a pressure plate attached to the gearbox. The disc spins with the engine. When you take your foot off the clutch to move the car, the disc is pressed against the pressure plate in the gear box causing the gears to turn. It is made of a very strong material which allows it to slip a little as it touches the gearbox plate, giving you a smooth take off.
A full 2 year guarantee applies to all TAC clutches. On later cars there may be a concentric slave cylinder fitted which can be very expensive and may not need to be replaced. TAC will check and advise you. Clutches can fail for some of the following reasons:
– A lot of stop/start and hill starting
– Hard driving
– Learner drivers – excessive slipping of the clutch
– Normal wear and tear
What to look for?
– Gear and engine revs slow to fall back after a higher gear is selected
– Clutch not gripping
When it comes to clutch replacement it is important to know that there are a number of options.
With Team AutoCentre YOU CHOOSE what’s best for you.
The clutch consists of the following parts:
1. Pressure Plate
2. Centre Plate
4. Clutch release bearing or a concentric slave cylinder (usually fitted to later models)
TAC members will examine your clutch and advise you of which parts you need to replace.
